1. If I rent my home beginning in 2009, how can I plan so I can stay clear of paying capital gains taxes when I sell?
2. If I do sell in a few years, do I pay capital gains if I put the money toward the mortgage on our primary residence (which we purchase in 2009)?

My husband and I purchased about $10,000 in windows and doors in May 2008 and November 2008. Then, again, we purchased about $2,000 worth of doors in January 2009.
Are there any tax credits available for the present 2008 tax season and the coming 2009 tax season that we should look out for?

If I give away $100k to my son as gift money at one time, will I be sheltered under the law of $1,000,000 limit during my lifetime? or will I have to pay a gift tax when I file next year. If so, how much would that be?
