Taxes must be paid to keep the Internal Revenue Service off of your back. The Internal Revenue Service, or IRS, is an armed agency who will show up at your door with guns drawn if you consistently fail to pay your taxes. It may seem a tad reactionary, but this is the way in which the United States enforces its tax code. It is therefore wise to pay your taxes every year.
To pay your taxes, you basically need two things: A W2 earnings statement from your employer, and a 1040 form from the IRS. You follow the very simple instructions on the 1040 form and refer to the data on the W2 earnings statement. You simply fill in the necessary blanks on the 1040 form and perform a few calculations, cross referencing solved values with a table in the 1040 pamphlet. Once you are finished, you will find out how much more you owe in taxes.
