If it gets too complicated, asking for the help of a tax preparer. In case your yearly income is $57,000 or less, you can file tax returns for free. Also, tax preparation is done for free.
If doing the 1040 on paper is too challenging, using online software can make it easier as it will automatically make the calculations based on the information's filled in the forms.
